IPTV and signage system boosts refreshment sales

Following the recent installation of a Cabletime MediaStar Evolution integrated IPTV and signage system to a large network of displays in the public and corporate areas of its new stadium, Chesterfield Football Club has increased sales of refreshments by over 20 per cent.

The installation of the powerful IP-based video and AV distribution solution from Cabletime has been carried out by AddoocoIT, the specialist IT systems integrator. One of the benefits that it offers the Club is the flexibility to stream the match live, so that fans who want to reach the refreshment concourse just prior to half-time, don’t have to miss a minute of the football action.

„Quite often, seats start to empty in the stadium five minutes before the end of the first half,” says Rhys Burkitt at AddoocoIT. „However, because fans can still see all the action on the screens, and because the Club uses the half-time break to show interviews with players and highlights from the game, they are not rushing back to their seats and linger longer after the half-time break. As a result, sales of refreshments have increased significantly. In addition, the Club is using the Evolution system to display advertising before the game starts, which provides another revenue stream for Chesterfield FC.”

Chesterfield FC, which currently sits at the top of nPower League Two, moved into its new Sheffield Road stadium in July of 2011, leaving behind the legendary Recreation Ground, one of the oldest football grounds in the country. With the move, the Club was keen to offer a much broader range of services to fans and corporate customers.

Rhys Burkitt continued: „The original thought was to install a range of TV’s networked across co-axial cable in just one wing of the stadium, but we were able to show the Club how much more they could achieve across their IP network – extending the reach of the video delivery throughout the entire stadium, including the public areas and conference and banqueting.”

Because MediaStar Evolution is designed specifically to deliver digital media, TV and AV content over IP networks, the Club can simultaneously schedule special welcome or informational messages in the public areas – including safety messages – whilst also streaming live football in the Stadium and company videos, presentations or targeted information in to the conference rooms. The easy to use software behind Evolution allows the Club complete control of to manage each or all of the displays in its stadium-wide screen network to their full advantage.

Chesterfield FC chief executive Carol Wilby said: „We are delighted that our IT partners Addooco IT Services have provided the club with so much flexibility in the delivery of digital media as it enhances the offering to our customers, whether in the concourses and hospitality areas on a matchday, or for conference and banqueting events seven days a week.”

„The icing on the cake is the boost to match-day revenue streams as a direct result of supporters spending more time and money in the refreshment bars as they linger to watch the Concourse TVs, even during the match.”
